Leader Renewal Institute partners with local organizations The Leader Renewal Institute, a Holland-based organization that specializes in care and counsel for church leaders, will bring Dr. Sheila Schuller Coleman and her father, Dr. Robert Schuller, both of Crystal Cathedral Ministries in Garden Grove, Calif., to West Michigan next month for two evening events, one for pastors and spouses and one open to the general public. On Friday, March 12, at 7 p.m. at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, Schuller Coleman will lead a presentation aimed specifically at clergy members and their families and intended to help participants learn how to prioritize the competitive demands on their time so that, said Schuller Coleman, "clergy, their family and their congregation are blessed."
David Breen, executive director of LRI, said that Schuller Coleman's presentation will include "real-life examples and Biblical reminders about how to appropriately fill the role of spouse, parent and pastor." He added: "It will be an amazing evening The event is being co-sponsored by Calvin College, Calvin Theological Seminary, the Christian Reformed Church of North America, Evangelical Covenant Church (Great Lakes Synod), Hope College, Hope & Healing, Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services, the Reformed Church in America, Wesleyan Church (West Michigan District) and Western Theological Seminary. The previous night, Thursday, March 11, Robert Schuller will speak at 7 p.m. in the Chapel on Calvin's campus in a talk that will be free and open to all. Schuller will reflect back on his 50-year career in the ministry, a career that has its roots in West Michigan. Robert Schuller was born in Iowa, but graduated from both Hope College and Western Theological Seminary prior to being ordained as a minister in the Reformed Church in America. He began his work in California in 1955 with the Garden Grove Community Church, which began at a drive-in theater, and 55 years later has become Crystal Cathedral Ministries. Schuller's weekly Sunday television service, the Hour of Power, is now one of the longest running weekly programs in television history and has an estimated worldwide audience of 20 million. Schuller also is the author of 37 books. |
